Sparta, New Jersey, January 30, 2023
Last month, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) posted information about the recall of laundry detergent manufactured in Mexico and imported by a company based in Texas. The recall involves three different laundry detergents that were sold under one brand name.
CPSC reports:
The recalled products can contain bacteria, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, an environmental organism found widely in soil and water. People with weakened immune systems or external medical devices who are exposed to Pseudomonas aeruginosa face a risk of serious infection that may require medical treatment. The bacteria can enter the body if inhaled, through the eyes, or through a break in the skin. People with healthy immune systems are usually not affected by the bacteria. Approximately 14,550 units of the detergent are part of the recall. The products were sold in regional stores and online from April 2022 through October 2022. Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the recalled products and to dispose of it by closing the bottle tightly and placing it in household trash.
Working with manufacturers, importers, distributors and regulatory agencies to help prevent these types of costly product recalls, and the health risks associated with contaminated products reaching consumers, are the microbial testing experts at MPL Laboratories. They provide microbial testing for
Pseudomonas aeruginosa and a broad spectrum of other contaminants. All testing takes place in MPL’s FDA registered and cGMP, ISO 17025 compliant laboratory to ensure the highest quality results.
