Health Canada published an advisory in July detailing the recall of one lot of an over-the-counter (OTC) nasal spray due to a risk of microbial growth in the product. The recall warns that testing found that the preservative in the product may not be as effective as expected. This could lead to an increased risk of the growth of microbes, such as mold or bacteria, if they are introduced into the product over time.
Using a nasal spray that is contaminated with microbes may result in a sinus infection, especially for those with a weakened immune system. Consumers are advised to stop using the recalled nasal spray immediately as sinus infections can lead to more serious complications in rare cases.
